Contrairement aux autres tellines dont les coquilles sont fines et fragiles, sa coquille est épaisse et solide : - Coquille de forme ovale, - Coloration blanchâtre avec parfois des rayons roses, - Stries concentriques de croissance marquées, - Taille d'environ 40 à 50 mm de longueur.

Possible confusions

Telline de la Baltique, Limecola balthica : coquille fine et légère, plus fragile. Toute autre genre de Telline, Tellina sp.

Biotope / Habitat

Sables grossiers ou coquilliers, depuis l'estran jusqu'à 150 m de profondeur.

Distribution

Manche, Atlantique Nord-Est et Méditerranée.
