La phronime sédentaire est un crustacé au corps transparent. La tête imposante faisant un angle de 90 degrés avec le corps, possède des taches rouges sur le côté. Les pattes avant sont imposantes certaines avec de grosses pinces.
La femelle est 4 fois plus grosse que le mâle soit 45 mm en moyenne, on la trouve souvent dans un baril translucide quelle a confectionnée avec ses anciennes proies.
