Possible confusions
Quand le polype est rétracté, il ressemble à un paquet de 8 petites boules blanches (ce sont les spicules à la base des tentacules) et peut faire penser à un scléractiniaire.

Espèce de petite taille ( 5 cm maximum) mais bien visible à l'oeil nu. Polypes de couleur brune à 8 tentacules pennées. Le disque buccal peut parfois être vert. Une rangée de spicules calcaires entoure le haut du polype juste avant les tentacules. Ces octocoralliaires forment des colonies de plus ou moins grande taille. En période de reproduction on peut voir les gamètes sortir en boulles blanches par l'orifice buccal.
