Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) regia

Madrépore solitaire de forme circulaire, en général de couleur jaune-orangé, mais peut être aussi de couleur verdâtre voire presque blanc. Taille inférieure à 20 mm. Les tentacules (maxi 48) possèdent des petites verrues et n'ont pas de bouton terminal.

Possible confusions

- Corail jaune solitaire Leptopsammia pruvoti : Madrépore solitaire jaune vif plus grand (60 mm maxi) et présent entre la surface et 50 m de profondeur. Espèce sciaphile. - Corail arborescent jaune Dendrophyllia cornigera : Madrépore en colonie jaune d'or plus grand (Jusqu'à 1 m) et espèce plus profonde (de 50 à 1000 m).

Biotope / Habitat

Fonds rocheux bien éclairés, depuis la surface jusqu'à 25 m de profondeur.

Distribution

Manche, Atlantique Nord-Est, Canaries, Méditerranée occidentale.
