Thalles filamenteux, cylindriques de 2 cm de diamètre maximum à ramifications plus ou moins alternes, entourés de filaments duveteux blanchâtres. Couleur variable de brun à blanc.
Petite taille (3 cm maximum) en petite profondeur et plus grande (20 cm maximum) en biotopes plus profonds.
