Les colonies forment des touffes denses de petites tiges (1 à 2 cm) surmontées chacunes d'un polype de 2 à 3 mm. Au sommet, la bouche et une couronne de tentacules blancs. Au printemps les gonophores rouges sont bien visibles à l'intérieur de la couronne tentaculaire.
