Scyphoméduse de grande taille (30 cm, voir plus). Son ombrelle beige, en forme de cloche, possède un dessin caractéristique contrastant de couleur brune. Comme sur une rose des vents, des marques en V rayonnent à partir du centre. Le bord de l'ombrelle est constitué de 32 petits lobes brun foncé d'où partent de longs tentacules transparents urticants. Sous l'ombrelle partent 4 tentacules buccaux plus courts, épais et festonnés. De petits poissons peuvent s'abriter sous les tentacules.
