L'axinelle verruqueuse est ramifiée en extensions digitiformes à l'aspect verruqueux et longée de canaux translucides.

Possible confusions

Axinelle commune - Axinella polypoides : Ramification aussi nombreuse mais lisse. Elle a de petites étoiles sur les ramifications régulièrement espacées. Axinelle plate - Axinella damicornis : Ramification beaucoup plus courte et aplatie

Biotope / Habitat

Elle est présente à partir de 15 mètres en zones abritées de la lumière. C'est une espèce sciaphile (qui craint la lumière).
