Sessile avec une taille maximale de 6 cm, les valves très fines sont incrustées à l'intérieur du corail
Ce bivalve Pectinidé creuse le corail grâce à des sécrétions chimiques
Manteau : est la seule partie visible de l'animal. Des yeux rouges ou marron se trouvent sur le bord du manteau.
Couleur : mauve, violette, pourpre à bleu pâle.
