A partir de quelques mètres et jusqu'à 300 m de profondeur. Espèce sciaphile, elle est présente dans les grottes et anfractuosités des pentes des récifs coralliens.

Langouste de petite taille de couleur rouge-orangé et dotée d'une paire de pinces :
- Taille jusqu'à 15 cm,
- Gros yeux noirs,
- Antennes rayées de rouge et de doré,
- Plaques claires sur flanc du céphalothorax,
- Dessus de la carapace et abdomen de couleur rouge,
- Larges anneaux blancs sur les pinces et petits anneaux blancs sur les pattes marcheuses.
