Taille : maximum 19 cm. Corps : fin, allongé, cylindrique. Couleur : marron à vert, le ventre est plus clair. La tête est droite par rapport au corps, la bouche est en position terminale au bout d'un long museau et elle est orientée vers le haut. Nageoires : elles sont discrètes et petites

Attitude discrète. Caché dans l'herbier rarement en pleine eau, souvent sur des petits fonds

Distribution

Côtes Nord Est de Atlantique , Manche et Mer du Nord, plus rarement en Méditerranée
