Grey nurse shark

Remarkable
Requin atteignant 3,20 m au maximum. Requin massif, au museau court et pointu, reconnaissable à sa dentition effilée et saillante. Robe brun foncé à gris-beige clair, tâches irrégulières brun-rouge sur les flancs. Son ventre est blanc. Les deux dorsales sont de même taille, elles s'insèrent en arrière du corps. Les pectorales sont petites. Il évolue seul ou en banc.

Possible confusions

Requin féroce Odontaspis ferox : de couleur grise et vivant normalement plus en profondeur.

Biotope / Habitat

Benthique et côtier, en eaux tropicales et tempérées.

Distribution

Circumglobale, façade atlantique américaine tempérée chaude, golfe du Mexique et nord des grandes Antilles. Façade atlantique du Brésil. Méditerranée. Façade atlantique marocaine, golfe de Guinée, côtes namibiennes et sud-africaines. Mer Rouge. Dans l'océan Indien, on le rencontre de l'Afrique du Sud au Mozambique. Façade asiatique du Pacifique et les côtes de l'Australie.
