Les Sabelles sont très craintives et se rétractent à l'intérieur de leurs tubes à la moindre alerte. Sabella pavonina est un ver qui vit dans un tube souple d'un diamètre un peu inférieur à 1 cm et qui dépasse du substrat d'une dizaine de centimètres. Il est constitué d'un panache composé de deux demi-couronnes qui présente des tâches pouvant être brunâtres, rougeâtres ou violacées.

Possible confusions

Il n'y a pas vraiment de risque de confusion avec d'autres vers sédentaires.

Biotope / Habitat

Le tube est enfoncé dans un fond meuble, jusqu'à 40 m.

En Méditerranée ainsi qu'en Atlantique Est, Manche et mer du Nord
