Le corps de Bonellia viridis est d'un brun verdâtre de forme plutôt cylindrique, il mesure de 7 à 15 cm. Elle se cache dans des anfractuosités de rocher donc rarement visible.
La trompe seule est visible elle est de couleur vert noirâtre. Elle peut s'allonger jusqu'à mesurer 1,50 m et se rétracter. Elle se termine en forme de T.
Cette forme est celle de la femelle bonellie.
Le mâle lui mesure 2 mm et vit fixé sur le corps de la femelle donc invisible pour le plongeur.
