Octocoralliaire ayant la forme d'un fouet. L'extrémité supérieure est recourbée vers le bas. 10 espèces connues : la plus fréquente étant probablement Junceella juncea (Indo-pacifique et Nouvelle Calédonie, Mer Rouge)

Possible confusions

Avec le corail noir (antipathaire) Cirrhipathes, appelé aussi "fouet de mer", mais qui n'est pas un octocoralliaire.
