Madrépore en colonie arborescente de polypes de couleur jaune d'or. Taille de la colonie autour de 40 cm mais pouvant aller jusqu'à 1m de haut. Longs tentacules. Bouche souvent entourée d'un liseré orange.

Possible confusions

Corail jaune solitaire Leptopsammia pruvoti : madrépore solitaire jaune vif plus petit (60 mm maxi) et présent entre la surface et 50 m de profondeur Madrépore bouton d'or Balanophyllia (Balanophyllia) regia : madrépore solitaire jaune orangé plus petit (20 mm maxi) et présent entre la surface et 25 m de profondeur

Biotope / Habitat

Espèce profonde : généralement de 50 à 1000 m. Sur fonds rocheux.
