Grande algue rouge buissonnante de consistance cartilagineuse, de couleur rouge foncée, présentant des axes principaux cylindriques d'aspect épais, les rameaux secondaires sont courts, de même diamètre et sont recourbés en crochet à leurs extrémités. La taille maximum est de 25 cm.
