Red crater sponge

Taille : 10 à 30cm, épaisseur 2 à 3cm Couleur : rouge vif à rouge foncé Aspect : lisse, épaisse, encroûtante, pores inhalants regroupés et visibles au niveau des nombreux cratères de forme arrondie ou polygonale, pores exhalants (oscules) surélevés Espèce photophile (aime la lumière)

Possible confusions

Eponge rouge à cratères Phorbas topsenti : non différentiable en plongée (analyse spicules nécessaire) mais l'éponge catalane rouge à cratères est plutôt présente sur la côte Vermeille alors que l'éponge rouge à cratères Phorbas topsenti est plutôt à Marseille. Eponge nid d'abeille Phorbas fictitius : de couleur plus pâle
