Plante aquatique, généralement vivace, à tiges grêles, de 10 à 50 cm de longueur : - Tiges filiformes et flottantes : se développent sous l'eau et produisent des rosettes caractéristiques de petites feuilles quand elles atteignent la surface, - Feuilles émergées en rosette et feuilles submergées opposées, - Fleurs minuscules et blanchâtres (mais rarement visibles).
