La perche se reproduit à partir du mois d'avril. Les oeufs sont libérés par la femelle sur des petits fonds sur des branchages ou des plantes, sous forme d'un long chapelet de deux mètres contenant entre 5 000 et 200 000 oeufs. Les oeufs sont ensuite immédiatement fécondés par un ou plusieurs mâles.
