Mérou qui ne dépasse pas la taille de 30 cm.
Corps de couleur brun rougeâtre à l'avant et brun foncé à l'arrière.
Nageoire caudale arrondie présentant deux barres blanches qui convergent vers la partie postérieure de la caudale.
Nageoires pectorales jaunâtres.
Parfois, des barres sombres peu visibles et verticales à l'arrière du corps.
