Reproduction d'avril à juin . Le mâle nettoie un espace protégé pour attirer une et parfois plusieurs femelles, qui viennent déposer de 100 à 500 oeufs chacune. Il surveille ensuite les oeufs jusqu'à l'éclosion. Parfois il consomme lui-même une petite partie de ses propres oeufs ou alevins.
