Bryozoaire en forme d'arbuste à branches dichotomes de couleur orange plus ou moins foncée. Les branches sont dans un plan, les bouts arrondis. les lophophores forment un fin duvet visible sur toute la surface des branches. Taille 15 cm maximum en Méditerranée et moins en Atlantique proche.

L'éponge-voile vit en total symbiose avec le bryozoaire. L'éponge permet un apport plus efficace de nourriture par le courant d'eau qu'elle crée et le bryozoaire lui assure un support. Cette association est presque toujours présente.
