Plante gazonnante à longs stolons, de 4 à 20 cm de haut. Tiges grêles tétragones sillonnées, dressées. Gaines basales rougeâtres. Epi de 2 à 4mm, ovoïde, solitaire et terminal. 3 stigmates. Akène blanchâtre, fusiforme. Floraison de juin à début septembre.
