Forme longiligne, fusiforme. Présence de grandes écailles de couleur argentée et bordées de noir .
La tête est fine, pointue située dans le prolongement du corps, mais sans écaille. La bouche est en position terminale, elle est petite, de face elle fait penser à un tout petit bec avec une lèvre supérieure bien distinct. Le bord de ses lèvres est corné. La mâchoire supérieure est légèrement plus allongée que la mandibule.
Les yeux sont petits, ronds et diamétralement opposés.Pprésence de deux narines peu développées.
Nageoire caudale échancrée.
