Algue se présentant sous 2 formes différentes selon les saisons : une forme de petite touffe verte de quelques cm de hauteur constituée de très fins filaments (forme sporophyte) et une forme de vésicule ronde, vert clair, de 1 cm environ de diamètre fixée sur des algues calcaires (forme gamétophyte).
