Elle est rouge-orangé, possède des bras (5 en général ) fixés à un petit disque central. Elle mesure en général entre 10 et 15 centimètres. Sa face supérieure est rugueuse. Sur sa face inférieure on observe sa bouche au centre et un sillon sur chaque bras. Au bout de chaque bras se trouvent un bouquet de ventouses et un oeil rudimentaire.
