Arthropode muni d'un squelette externe, Un céphalothorax avec deux paires d'antennes et des appendices masticateurs. Le rostre a des bords lisses et qui convergent. Deux yeux pédonculés, présence d'une crête post-orbital L'abdomen est segmenté et se termine par un telson. Cinq paires de pattes. La première paire est armée de pinces courtes et étroites. La carapace est de couleur fortement marbrée , marbrures blanchâtres et brunâtres. Taille maximale jusqu'à 15 cm de long, pour un poids exceptionnellement de 30 grammes. Écrevisse anormalement parthénogénétique (division à partir d'un gamète femelle non fécondé.)

Adaptation à divers environnements et conditions environnementales hors de son aire de répartition d'origine la Floride et la Géorgie. En eau calme ou eau courante, marécage, rivière, lac, marais et étangs .

En Europe, Allemagne on la trouve également en Italie, aux Pays-Bas, en Ukraine, en Roumanie, Hongrie etc. ainsi qu'au Japon et à Madagascar,
