Couleur : rouge à brunâtre (plus clair côté lumière)
Corps ferme et ventru, pourvu de deux siphons érigés pourtant de fines soies qui se ferment et le corps peut se rétracter fortement
Sa tunique coriace est très résistante, finement granuleuse
Aime l'obscurité (sciaphile)
Au delà de 5m le rouge disparait donc il faudra éclairer l'animal pour voir cette couleur
