Colonie de centaines d'individus, construction encroûtante molle constituée de petites logettes comme des petites ampoules. Les orifices sont visibles à l'oeil nu. Les individus sont alignés représentant des formes diverses sur parfois plusieurs décimètres. La couleur est variée du jaune, orange, rouge, violacé au brun clair. Cette fiche regroupe les espèces non identifiables en plongée : Botrylloides leachi Botrylloides violaceus Botrylloides diegensis.

Possible confusions

Ces différentes espèces de tuniciers ne peuvent pas être déterminées sur photos d'où cette fiche "Botrylloides sp " seulement sur le genre. Seul le botryllle étoilé Botryllus schlosseri de forme étoilée peut être plus facilement identifiable.

De la surface à des profondeurs plus importantes, sur des substrats durs comme les roches ou sur des végétaux .
