Apogon imberbis (Linnaeus, 1758)

Petit poisson rouge-orangé de 10 cm maximum au corps trapu. L'oeil est marqué de 2 traits blanc bleuté horizontaux. La bouche se termine en arrière de l'oeil. Le mâle et la femelle sont identiques sauf l'été où les mâles ont la bouche distendue par un grand nombre d'oeufs (plus de 20 000).

Possible confusions

Avec le Barbier Anthias anthias mais la caudale du barbier est fortement échancrée et l'oeil n'est pas marqué de deux traits horizontaux de couleur blanc bleuté.

Biotope / Habitat

Vit dans la journée dans des cavités de roche à l'abri de la lumière. Sort la nuit pour chasser. Vit de 10 à 200 m de profondeur.
