King of the breams

Pagellus erythrinus (Linnaeus, 1758)

Le Pageot commun a un corps allongé légèrement ovale de couleur argenté avec des reflets roses sur la partie dorsale et parsemé de points scintillants bleus. Taille maximum 40 à 50 cm. Poids 2 à 3 kg. Hauteur maximale du corps au niveau de l'insertion de l'unique nageoire dorsale. Les nageoires pectorales forment un triangle, la caudale est bifide. La bouche est petite et basse, le museau est pointu. Tache rouge à rouge sang sombre derrière l'opercule. La ligne latérale est rouge bien marquée

Biotope / Habitat

Le pageot vit en banc, la plupart du temps dans des fonds de 20m et plus. On le rencontre souvent sur le fond car sa nourriture est plutôt benthique.
