Grapsus adscensionis

Carapace quasi-circulaire et très aplatie : - Couleur rouge orangé ou brun foncé avec des nuances jaunes ou brunes, - Taille de 5 à 8 cm de largeur, - Yeux très écartés, - 4 paires de pattes aplaties aux jointures assez larges, - 2 pinces assez courtes.

Possible confusions

Confusion possible avec les espèces du genre Pachygrapsus qui partagent la même aire de distribution mais à la carapace plus "carré" : - Crabe marbré, Pachygrapsus marmoratus, - Grapse noir, Pachygrapsus maurus, - Crabe du rivage à bandes droites, Pachygrapsus transversus.

Sur les rochers de la zone intertidale.

Distribution

Méditérranée (mer d'Alboran) et Atlantique Nord-Est : Ile de l'Ascension, Iles de Macaronésie (Acores, Madère, Canaries et Cap-Vert) et côtes de l'Afrique de l'Ouest.
