Isarachnanthus maderensis (Johnson, 1861)

Petit cérianthe de 10 cm de diamètre : - Colonne jusqu'à 15 cm de hauteur, quelques centimètres visible au dessus du sédiment, - Double couronne de tentacules, de 20 à 42 tentacules - Tentacules marginaux de couleur brune à la base puis annelés de brun à blanc-beige, marqués de taches vert-fluo. Comme son nom commun espagnol l'indique ("Cerianto nocturno"), l'espèce est active la nuit.

Possible confusions

Grand cérianthe, Cerianthus membranaceus : - De plus grande taille (jusqu'à 35 cm de diamètre), - Nombre de tentacules marginaux plus important (de 100 à 155 tentacules), - Tentacules de couleur variable avec une alternance d'anneaux avec un alignement de petites taches sur la face interne des tentacules. Cérianthe de Dohrn, Pachycerianthus dohrni : - De plus grande taille (jusqu'à 35 cm de diamètre), - Nombre de tentacules marginaux plus important (de 110 à 160 tentacules), - Tentacules unis de couleur variable et sans anneau.

Biotope / Habitat

A partir de quelques mètres et jusqu'à 30 m de profondeur, sur les fonds meubles.

Distribution

Atlantique N-E dans les iles de Macaronésie : Acores, Madère, Canaries et Cap-Vert. Atlantique Sud : iles de l'Ascension et atool de Rocas (Brésil)
