Rough cockle

Acanthocardia tuberculata (Linné, 1758)

La coquille est composée de deux valves identiques de forme arrondie, l'aspect est massif et fortement convexe. La face externe comporte une vingtaine de côtes bien marquées et rayonnantes. La couleur est irrégulièrement brunâtre. Les côtes ont souvent de petites épines, mais parfois il s'agit seulement de petits mamelons. La face interne est lisse. La taille maximum est aux alentours de 8 à 10 cm

Possible confusions

Avec la plupart des Acanthocardia : - Bucarde épineuse Acanthocardia aculeata : 20 à 26 côtes. Les épines sur la partie externes des valves sont très visibles et pointues (Atlantique Nord-Est, Méditerranée) - Cardium épineux ou bucarde rouge Acanthocardia echinata : 18 à 23 côtes. (Atlantique Nord-Est, Mer du Nord, Manche, Méditerranée.) - Acanthocardia paucicostata : couleur brune claire, les côtes sont plus espacées et moins nombreuses - Acanthocardia deshayesii : 16 à 19 côtes, couleur brune plus claire - Bucarde hérissée Acanthocardia spinosa : 25 à 30 côtes, couleur brune claire

Biotope / Habitat

Profondeur de deux à trois mètres jusqu'à une vingtaine de mètre . Dans le sédiment, le sable, dans les gravières et des fond vaseux.

Distribution

Méditerranée, Mer Noire, Atlantique Nord-Est, Manche et Mer du Nord.
