La forme est variable selon l'espèce.
Corps long, trois paires de pattes, couleur brun jaune avec des motifs plus sombres parfois.
Petite tête avec deux antennes longues, deux yeux composés et des petits ocelles.
Abdomen se terminant par deux à trois cerques (Appendice paire porté dorsalement à l'arrière du corps) suivant l'espèce . Le nombre de branchies est de 5 à 7
Nombre de mues variables de 10 à 20 suivant le groupe
