Big siphonophore

Ctte fiche regroupe 2 espèces très difficiles à distinguer en plongée : Forskalia edwardsii et Forskalia contorta. Taille : 50cm à 5 m et jusqu'à 10 m de long Couleur : rose, orangé, points noirs, transparent Aspect : pour les plus petits : forme en fil qui rétracté paraitra plus épais, pour les plus grands : long manchon plumeux. Dans tous les cas on observera facilement le flotteur translucide à l'avant de la colonie suivi d'une série de polypes organisés autour d'un axe central, filaments urticants rétractables.

Pleine mer entre 0 et 10m Migrations verticales jusqu'à 500m de profondeur

Méditerranée Ouest, Atlantique, océan Indien, mer Rouge, mer de Chine et de Cortez
