Remarkable
Corps haut, comprimé latéralement. Taille maximal inférieur à 40 cm de long.
La coloration du dos et des flancs oscille en le vert olive, le bronze et le brun, avec des stries verticales sombres, la partie ventrale est claire. La tête est imposante et allongée, la bouche est imposante.
La dorsale est en deux parties la première partie est plus courte et presque toujours visible contrairement à la seconde. La caudale large est modérément échancrée.
Chez les jeunes la nageoire caudale est orangée à base.
