Se présente sous la forme d'un bouquet de tiges jaunâtres de 10 à 15 cm chacunes surmontées d'un polype rose d'environ 15 mm. Chaque polype est entouré de deux couronnes de tentacules. Au printemps les tentacules intérieures fusionnent en un bourgeon rouge bien visible. C'est donc la période où on l'observe le plus souvent.
