Petite algue brune:
- Taille de 10 à 15 cm,
- Lanière épaisse en forme de gouttière sur toute la longueur,
- Couleur vert olive (ou clair lorsqu'elle est hydratée),
- Absence de flotteur.
A partir du printemps, ses extrémités dichotomes sont renflées en raison du développement de réceptacles fertiles.
