Haliclona (Haliclona) oculata

Éponge arbustive jaune ou beige de 10 à 30 cm. Sa forme peut être variable, souvent en forme d'éventail avec des branches aplaties dichotomes. Ses branches portent la caractéristique de petites oscules rondes et alignées, bien visibles (d'où son nom "ocula"); .

Possible confusions

Confusion possible avec d'autres éponges jaunes arbustives mais les oscules sont le critère discriminant : Axinella dissimilis montre des oscules avec des sillons en étoile.

Biotope / Habitat

Sur les roches, cailloux, épaves ou même en épibionte, de la surface à 100 m de profondeur. Tolère le sédiment . Localement abondante dans les détroits car elle aime le courant.

Distribution

De la Mer du Nord, Manche, Atlantique jusqu'au sud du Portugal. Également Atlantique Nord-Ouest.
