Éponge assez massive, en forme de gros coussinet : - hérissée de papilles assez longues (jusqu'à 10 cm de haut) qui se terminent par des oscules (orifices exaltants), - Couleur jaune-orangé unie.

Possible confusions

Éponge à languettes ou éponge-mamelles blanche Polymastia penicillus : de couleur plus claire avec des cheminées en forme de languettes de longueur inégale. Éponge pinceau ou éponge de verre Ciocalypta penicillus : base plus mince et des excroissances caractéristiques pointues et presque translucides. Couleur blanc sale à beige clair.

Biotope / Habitat

Plateaux rocheux peu profonds, dans des zones roches et sable.

Atlantique Nord Ouest et Nord Est, Manche et mer du Nord.
