Taille : maximale 70 cm Corps : ovale fortement comprimé latéralement Nageoires pectorales jaunes Caudale : fourchue, scalpel sombre dans un cercle blanchâtre Profondeur : au-delà de 120 m Corps : possède des couleurs du gris bleu au bleu violacé, bande jaune horizontale du museau à l'oeil, Nageoires : pectorale jaune, dorsale et anale jaunâtres.
