Petit poisson, d'une taille maxi de 9 cm, de couleur beige très clair avec des petits points et tirets rouges plus ou moins alignés sur tout le corps. La tête est jaune plus ou moins foncé. Il est toujours posé sur le fond.

Possible confusions

le gobie de Sarato Gobius fallax : sans points rouges, Le gobie moucheté Gobius incognitus : sans points rouges et avec des gros points noirs sur les flancs

Biotope / Habitat

Fonds rocheux, coralligène, zones lagunaires de 0 à 20 m de profondeur

Distribution

Une partie de la Méditerranée : de plus en plus rare en allant vers l'Est de la Méditerranée notamment au-delà du Var (département 83) Canaries, Atlantique du Portugal et de l'Espagne, Italie, Corse
