Sugar sea belt

Saccharina latissima (Linnaeus) C.E. Lane, C. Mayes, Druehl & G.W. Saunders, 2006

PlantsAlgaePhaeophyceae (Brown algae)
Grande laminaire (jusqu'à 1,50 m), présentant une fronde allongée non ramifiée à bord ondulé et d'aspect gaufré. L'apex de la fronde est arrondi. Le stipe court est fixé au substrat par un crampon griffu. La couleur varie du brun clair au brun foncé.

Biotope / Habitat

Infrallittoral, chenaux et mares permanentes du médiolittoral, sur substrats rocheux, fonds de cailloutis ou de graviers, en mode calme.

Distribution

Atlantique NE (de l'Espagne au nord de la Scandinavle, Islande), Atlantique NW (de Long Island à Terre-Neuve, Golfe du Saint-Laurent), Manche, Mer du Nord, Pacifique NE.
